Trawler ice machines from ZIEGRA
Freshness and cooling from the catch
Onboard ice machines
The reliable ZIEGRA trawler ice machines have been used on ships for over 30 years. The ice does not have to be taken ashore, but can be produced on site as required when fishing.
Your benefit from ZIEGRA trawler ice machines:
- Simple operation
- Robust design also suitable for rough seas
- All components made of high-quality stainless steel or seawater-coated
- Cooling with seawater
- Ice production from seawater or fresh water
- Our “3 in 1” machine - three types of ice from one machine
- Individual complete solutions: Storage and pump systems available for StreamIce.
Ice machine variants:
Three types of ice machines are recommended for installation on fishing boats:
- UBE: for the production of broken ice from fresh water
- SWE: for the production of broken ice from both fresh water and salt water
- SI: for the production of StreamIce® (liquid ice) from salt water.
SI 3in1
Combines the production of all three types of ice cream in one machine - the desired type of ice cream can be produced as required simply by adjusting the settings.

The machines are supplied ready to plug in for connection to electricity and water. A power connection and a pump to supply the trawler machine with seawater are required. If the machine is to produce ice from fresh water, a connection to a water tank is required. The amount of water required for ice production corresponds to the amount of ice required (e.g. 150 liters of water make 150 kg of ice).
Crushed ice from fresh water
Freshwater crushed ice has the ideal temperature of -0.5°C and is therefore particularly gentle on the fish. Due to its irregular structure, the ice always remains loose and easy to handle. It never freezes together. ZIEGRA crushed ice has no sharp edges and cannot injure the fish to be cooled. It is ideal for storing high-quality fish for longer periods.

Broken ice from salt water
The temperature of seawater ice is approx. -7°C. It cools the fish quickly and intensively. Due to its salt content, seawater ice is softer than flake ice from fresh water, for example, and has no sharp edges. The fish is not injured. The unlimited supply of seawater can be used to make ice. The trawler ice machine is designed for the highest loads and can cope with different salt contents without any problems.
StreamIce® (liquid ice) made from salt water
StreamIce® (liquid ice) made from salt water, the temperature of the StreamIce varies between -2° and -3°C depending on the density of the ice. Due to its liquid form, it guarantees a complete enclosure of the fish and is therefore particularly advantageous for rapid cooling. The ice density can be varied from 15 to 55%, depending on the intended use. The higher the density, the more suitable the ice is for storing fresh fish. If the water in the box is allowed to drain away, the ice crystals form evenly around the fish and cool for up to several days.
Thanks to its pumpability, the StreamIce can be easily transported to its destination using an appropriate system. No more laborious scooping.
All machines are available as:
- Compact machines
- separate unit with separate condenser
- Ice maker without refrigeration unit for connection to an existing refrigeration system
