According to EU law, water and ice are foodstuffs. Compliance with the relevant hygiene regulations is the responsibility of the operator. With the “Hygienic Design” of its ice machines and practical tips, ZIEGRA provides the prerequisites for the prescribed ice hygiene.

Nevertheless, germs, limescale and minerals can still get into the machine. In particular, standing water in the water inlet or in the machine (when ice production is switched off) harbors the risk of increased germ growth.

  • Closed water supply The closed small water tank, short pipes and the closed ice cylinder largely exclude bacteriological contamination.
  • Greater operational reliability and lower maintenance and service costs thanks to clean water pipes, evaporator surface and valves.

Hygiene options for your water and ice machine:

  • Water filter: with activated carbon, coarse and ultra-fine filters and limescale stabilizers to actively prevent the formation of a breeding ground for germs in the ice machine and to maintain the machine's performance and extend its service life. (To the product)

Machine installation

Please also pay attention to the installation location of the ice machine, because when the ice is conveyed from the closed ice cylinder, the ice comes into contact with the ambient air, which carries external germs from the environment with it due to the air movement. Therefore, place the ice machine in a room that is as clean as possible. Storage rooms, waste rooms or close to transportation routes are not suitable from a hygienic point of view; processing rooms and cold rooms with organic products are only suitable to a limited extent.
